On my first trip to the PI two years ago, my family got tickets to watch a taping of Wowowee and I was somehow picked out of the audience and pulled up on stage for the beginning number. Mind you, I would have probably been more ecstatic had I known any of the current dances or songs that they were about to throw at me. Oh yeah, that and if I understood anything that was being said as the only words I know in Tagalog are apparently bad ones. So you can imagine what I looked like on stage trying to copy countless Tagalog-singing strangers who were sashaying around and puckering their lips at the camera (I learned shortly after that the tune of choice was Sayao Darling and it was still in my head long after we landed back on US soil). But really, look for it in the ABS-CBN archives. The whole thing was caught on camera and aired at length during the episode. I know this as a handful of relatives recorded the episode and graciously made long-distance phone calls to tell my parents that they had seen me on TV. No big deal.
Now aside from my aforementioned experience above, I don’t know much about Filipino Hollywood except that all the girls are very pretty and seem to have an adorable fashion sense. Would be pretty cool to share tips from a cultural standpoint, I’d think so at least.
Here’s Shaina Magdayao on the cover of Mega Magazine’s October 2009 issue. I’m only realizing now that her top is one-shoulder and I love it a little more for that. And she looks radiant in the pink-red combination, which in my opinion, is not always easy to pull off.
For the record, whenever I go to my parents’ house, TFC is always - without fail - blaring from at least two televisions in the background. And I must admit, I do find ASAP ‘09 quite entertaining and will oftentimes not-so-secretly check out what episodes have been saved in the DVR queue. Is that so wrong?
